You have a place in Kerala? Seriously? Smart guy! We've been saying things all month like, "next winter, Goa. Definitely." Or Kerala. It's supposed to be really nice there. I'd love to see Kerala. And obviously the electricity issues wouldn't throw me :-)

"owning" is a stretch. We paid for and have used our flat 3 times so far- but really it belongs to the Guru of the Ashram, we just get the privledge of using it. The room gets used as college housing when we're not using it. It has been 5 years since I've made the pilgrimage.

In December Kerala is pretty popular with the German tourists, 95 degrees outside with 95 degree Ocean water to swim in. In September its not crowded at all as the monsoon, while over, has the ocean in a mean mood. Huge waves crashing all the way up the rocks. In December the waves crash about 100 meters away from the rocks so you can swim...as much as one can swim in 95 degree water.

Kovalam is a European tourist destination near the Trivandrum airport. Lots of hotels and resorts. Lighthouse beach is the best. If you have insider experience you can find more secluded spots or aryuvedic spas or what not.

Or if you are on the cheap and don't mind spartan college dorm living you can stay at the Amritapuri Ashram for not much money. You get live music every evening as part of your dorm fee. The first two pix I posted are from there, the last one is from Kovalam. The Ashram is literally right on the Indian Ocean with the jungle backwaters right behind it. Some folks I work with here in the USA went there as a vacation, took the backwaters boat tour and loved it. Wild elephants in the mountains above.

I go to see Mata Amritanandamayi. She picked up where the GD left off. Literally the day Jerry Died she popped up in my life.
